What does a preacher, marketing representative and software demo guy have in common? They tend to deviate truths to make their speech sounds interesting.

Marketing reps and demo guy, I can understand, but preachers? You guys should be a saint, you don’t tell fake truths for your own ego.

Example A
I don’t understand why people are celebrating their birthdays. It’s like you are celebrating that you have one year less to live.

Hello? If we put it the other way around, birthday means that we survived to live for one year. Does it sounds like something unworthy to celebrate?

If you don’t like the idea of people celebrating their birthday, just say that its a waste of money and useless.

Example B
See how weak we are? At one moment you are riding expensive car, wearing expensive watch and clothes; at the next moment floods of water hits you and you are nothing. All done by this simple thing called water (reffering to recent Tsunami in Aceh)

I think it’s misleading to say tsunami as ‘simple thing called water’. Whoever said this is trying to exaggerate truth by using lame analogy.

Tsunami is not just water, it’s a high speed wave of waters with kilojoules of kinetic energies formed by underwater earthquake caused by movement of continental plates that results in sea waves with long wavelength.

Does it sounds simple?

First of all, you have to make sure that you and the ‘preacher’ are talking within the same context or perspective dimension. And then you can start argue things :)

Example ADepends on what they are inteded to by having a burthday celebration, the celebration itself may means different things.

Lame ass birthday took form in a one hell of a ‘gaul’ party, all fun no ‘turning back time’ thing, does seem futile.

But there might be a celebration which took form in a reflection of time .. evaluating what someone had done adn what smeone plan for his/her future. That kinda celebration is pretty cool with me.

I think you’re referring to my first type of birthday celebration.

Example BYou missed the part of the other process. The expenxive car was bought using money earned for a 24 7 hard time, and the watchwas bought with the money that’s pretty much more useful to poor citizen living in the dirt along the poluted river, etc etc :) ..

And the tsunami, it does just merely water .. that we never expect to have such speed, with that huge amount of kilojoules of kinetic energy.

That tsunami is a simple water, as long as you assume that that car is just a car and the watch is just plain watch.

That sounds simple for me :p

    It’s a matter of perception ..

    Cheer, peace :)

    beliefe is like LOVE..
it makes us think, speak, behave and decide differently from the one who don’t!
don’t argue with people in love when they said “the world is ours, the other are in homestay program”
illogical..but that’s is what they feel..
    piss :)

What I meant was, it’s not fair if you don’t see the car and the watch with the same perspective you use to see the tsunami.

The essence of tsunami is water, other properties such as kinetic energy, etc is an added value which in turn increase the meaning of water.

While the car and the watch, if you look at it, it maybe simple. But if you start to use other perspective, with has the same ‘effect’ as the perspective you use ti see the tsunami, then the watch and the car will not be the same again.

Put an example, a mercedes benz, a rolex .. put in the middle of dead bodies and people in hunger – somewhere in this world. It will be no longer just mercedes benz neither a rolex .. it’s a fortune worths people lives. It’s another ‘tsunami’.

I think, when the preacher said that tsunami is just a “simple” water, the preacher may have different perspective with your “simple”. The preacher used the word “simple” to make a certain emphasis to other certain subject.

I hope I won’t make this tsunami even more complicated. Cause the more I go deeper the more I will lost my point :p

If people are in love it doesn’t mean they have to be stupid right?

Well, thats what most people do: making decisions based on illogical reasons. Thats usually happens when they are in love.

Toni, I really don’t think that a mercedes, a rolex, a bucket of water and tsunami would be different if wee see it in a more rational and absolute perspective.

A mercedes can feed thousands hungry children in Africa, a Rolex can be more expensive than the GDP of some poor countries, a bucket of water wont harm a baby, and a tsunami kill hundred thousands people.

The preachers analogy on tsunami vs. wealth is nice, I would have used it if I were a preacher. BUt still, its just a word trickery. Because the fact of using the term ‘simple water’ is misleading because tsunami is not just a simple water.

You’re rite. preachers are always ‘playing’ with ‘words’. Sometimes they make sense, sometimes they don’t.

    use ur head.. :p
if u tell a novelist to stop writing, will they do it..?

if u tell a doctor to stop healing people, what do u think they’ll do..?

if i tell u to stop programming, just becoz i find programming is a piece of shit, will u listen..?
    NO, u wont, cos it’s what u do.. :D

see, a man’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.. u cant tell people to stop doing things u dont like.. unless u have a great power, like hitler..

if u start questioning what others believe, u could trigger a god damned war.. now u definitely dont wanna start a war, do u..?

wanna hear some advice..? mind what u believe, dont mind what others believe..
it’s better than having an endless friggin’ argument.. :)

dont lay any trouble on already troubled minds…

Romen, you failed to see my point.

I dont have problem with people doing what they love, but I believe that people shouldn’t lie when they are trying to convince something. Instead of using clever retorts, why not present facts and logical arguement.
